today i went back to the doctor because i am three days over due and when my doctor did an internal exam it hurt. he said he was sorry for torturing me but that he was trying to get me to do something, im assuming start to dialate. does anyone know what he was doing, maybe trying to get my mucus plug to come out? i have had a very light brownish spotting since this morning.

yea he should have told me i guess his way of telling me was saying that he didnt mean to hurt me, but he was trying to get me to do something (i guess something meant dialate or go into labor)

What he did is called stripping your membranes. This does give your body a boost for labor. And it hurts! I almost felt dizzy and couldn't walk when they did mine. But it did make me go in labor by the next 2 days. Chances are you will have baby by the weekend. Good Luck and Congrats!

It is called stripping the membranes. He separated your bag of waters from your cervix and then stretched you out. You could possibly go into labor in the next 48 hours. OR like me ive had it done 2 times and still no baby. good luck and congrats you dont need a lawyer your doctor does not need your consent to strip your membranes I already looked it up when i got mine done. The hook is for when they brake your water Dont listen to some people lol they dont know what they are talking about lol

He stripped your membranes.
I had that done too. Most OB's do that when you are overdue or close to being overdue. I lost my plug the day after having it done. Yes, it can cause your plug to come out. I bled a lot after having it done, which is perfectly NORMAL. If you bleed, then the chances of the membrane stripping setting you into labor increase. For me, it did not make me go into labor ( I ended up being induced at the hospital) but it causes a lot of women to go into labor within 48 hours.
PS - the hook is used to break your water... every doctor uses their fingers to strip the membranes.

A lot of answerers have suggested that the dr stripped your membranes. But if that is what he did, why didn't he tell you that is what he had done? I would call him asap and ask what he did during the internal exam. He may have stripped your membranes but he should have told you that is what he was doing because it is a way to induce labor. If his intent was to induce labor, why wasn't he telling you so? This bothers me.

Sorry... I know I'm a guy, but my wife just had a son, and I was very involved with the pregnancy.
He was probably just stripping your membranes. It's done by hand (gloved hand) sweeping the amniotic membranes free of their attachment to the lower part of the uterus.

Well if I were you I would just call and ask him. If he stripped your membranes he should have told you thats what he did. If it hurt, thats most likely what he did, but still should have told you

If you are overdue, try having sex! That is supposed to stimulate uterine contractions, and sperm is supposed to have a chemical in it to make the uterus contract. Much more fun than a doctor!
