i just got done playing metal gear solid 2 and it has a confusing ending. you find out that the entire 2nd half of the game was drawn out and "simulated" to parrelel the events of shadow moses(MGS1) by the patriots to collect data to collect data to make the perfect soldier. i was wondering if metal gear solid 1 was also "staged" by the patriots?

I'm pretty sure that Shadow Moses wasn't staged out by the patriots but rather they saw the potential of Solid Snake as the perfect solider, but I think they realized that they were not going to be able to manipulate Snake because of his strong abilities of perception(remember he questioned Campell throughout MGS1) so they recreated Shadow Moses to create another super solider to use as a pawn

You know...I love the game...but I have given up on trying to follow the plot. For me it always makes just enough sense to keep my playing. :)
