what is the meaning of life?

why are we here? Why are we the only inteligent life in the universe? Whats the point in living? etc...

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

The meaning of life...okay this is coming from a teen so deal with it....
I think that we are all part of the circle of life... We create food for decomposers when we die, We eat other animals and we are all connected in some way or another.....The only way to know how we are the only intelligent creatures on the face of this universe is to go to the other places in this universe...which is impossible because of our scientific knowledge... And the point of living is that we can learn through all situations we put ourselves in....we learn the point of life near the end......we might not know it now but once we get older we will have a full understanding of life, and what not......we are all young and we dont know why were here or about or intelligence, but that doesnt mean that we will never know...

Well, I think I have spend some years thinking about a lot. I have been also close to death, and this is why I start thinkingabout it more.
For me the meaning of life is to pass from "man" to "existenz" as Martin Heidegger very correclty said. "Man" is the no-one, the unknown. "Existenz" means somebody who has done something to be remembered.
Einstein achieved "Existenz".
The humman nature is only different than animals because we have common sense. The price we pay for this is that we know that we will die. In order to win the death, we produce science, art, poetry etc. This is what makes us leaving for ever. This is what brings as to existenz, what keeps ua alive even when we do not exist anymore.
This is what I think. The point of living is to achieve "Existenz"

live, learn, love, reproduce, love more then die...thats about it..
