I have actually done this. I had sever depression for about 6 years. That is when I started taking courses. I found it not only gave me helpful information, but also help me with my depression itself by giving me something new to concentrate on. I couldn't get enough information and found that by completing the work involved lifted my spirits. Focus was the key for me. I would learn new information on causes and met many people who where in the same situation. I actually never did finish to earn a degree but I have carried all the information, and tools that I learned to deal with it(having depression,I feel, makes you prone to it)throughout these past years, and have been able to help others by passing along the info.
Go for it, there is no place to go but up when your depressed and if you find something that can make you feel good even for a minute, the minutes eventually turn into hours, days, weeks and years.
Hope this helps and good luck

The study of psycology probably would not worsen your own depression, it might in fact give you some insight into how and why people suffer from depression. You should, however, seek medical help, depression is a very real condition and it can be treated quite effectively. You won't be able to seriously study any topic if you are too depressed to get out of bed. There is no limit to what you can do and never sell yourself short.

Depression is only a state of mind, we're all depressed at some point in our lives (I was depressed over my semester grades, but then I realized that there was nothing to do about it except try to bring them up next semester.). But I think that knowing how the human mind works is a great way to understand why you are the way you are, so yes studying psychology is a good thing. I would if I had the time.

It may help you understand the feels you're experiencing. Being depressed is okay, everyone gets depressed they just deal with it differently. Some people are so good at concealing it to the point were they can get themselves out of the funk. I am depressed but I deal with it and understand why. Then I try to move to a solution or understand the feeling. Definitely study psychology it will help.

I'm chronically depressed and have studied SOME phychology, but not alot. If anything, the knowledge will teach you how to better understand what's going on in your head, thus teaching you how to better deal with it. It won't make you worse unless you are a hypochondriac.
