WHat are some symptoms you would experience if something happened to the fetus late in pregnancy? Would you automatically go into labor or could you continue to carry an unliving fetus? Im just curious. Thanks.

Sometimes there is no warning. Some women go in for an ultra sound and find out that their baby has passed due to cord accidents, or a genetic disorder. It is rare to lose a baby that late though. This is one reason that doctors want you to keep track of the baby's movements. If movements suddenly decrease when they have been really active or you have not felt the baby move in 24 hours you need to let your doctor know.

It depends. Some women will go into labor and some dont find out until they realize they havent felt any movement and go to the doctor. I know a few people who found out their baby had dies late in pregnancy and the doctor induced labor as to not have the women carry the baby the rest of the pregnancy. Im 7 wks pregnant and I worry about that happening more than I do a miscarriage.

I have not personally experienced this but a coworker of mine lost her baby at 37 weeks. She had not felt the baby move in 3 days so she went to her OB. They could not find a heartbeat, which should be easy at 37 weeks. Upon ultrasound, they found the umbilical cord wrapped around the babies neck which was the cause of death. She could have waited for the baby to spontaneously miscarry at that point which could have meant many complications, so she opted for induction as if in a healthy pregnancy (petocin and cervadil). She ended up having a c section of her stillborn baby girl. It was the saddest thing ever. She ended up getting pregnant soon after her baby died and had a healthy baby boy.

I do not understand how late in the pregnancy you may be talking about although I had a still born at my nine months and I carried my son like this for two weeks and DIDN'T know it. My doctor told me that when I was ready he would deliver the baby although IF I layed there with the baby dead then I was risking infections as well.

I carried a dead fetus in my womb for about 3 weeks before I miscarried. My body was 14 weeks pregnant, but the baby died at 11 weeks gestation. I know that is not LATE in pregnancy, but, that was my experience.

The NUMBER 1 sign that something is wrong is the baby stops moving for longer than a couple of hours. Yes, it is possible to carry the dead fetus to term. That is called a still birth. I really hope this is happening to you. If you suspect anything, go to the ER or dr. It is better safe than sorry.

I believe you could continue to carry a deceased fetus for a time. If you are worried, I would see if you can drop by your doctors office to at least hear the heartbeat, if not see your baby on ultrasound. Your doctor should be willing to put your mind to rest. It's not healthy for you to worry!!

my aunt went for an ultrasound at 6 months and the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat and the doctor just induced labor right there and she gave birth to a stillborn. the doctors and nurses were kind enough to let my aunt hold the baby for as long as she wanted. after awhile the baby started shrinking due to lack of oxygen.

so wait for the next ultrasound and see how it goes. i hope your baby is doing alright. i guess everything happens for a reason.

The most noticable sign of fetal death is ceasation of fetal movement. Usually labor does not begin on its own immediately after fetal death. The mother must wait until labor begins, or if the doctor believes the uterus is ready enough, he may induce labor. If you do a web search and enter "fetal death" you will find several articles to read.

You would start to feel ill if the fetus had died. I know someone that lost their baby at 8 months. the baby had crushed the cord with its elbow. she noticed it wasn't moving anymore. She was rushed to the hospital when she was feeling ill and found that the baby had dies. She delivered the baby naturally, they induced her to go into labour, then she got to dress it and hold it.
