Why are we punishing the capitol? It's sucha pretty building. I know, I know, high crime and poverty surround it, but I don't know that punishing it would change that.

~Capital punishment is finacially dimininishing because the needle is a lot cheaper the the gas or the chair. As to capital punishment being more expensive than life imprisonment without parole or some such alternative, as well as its absolute failure as a deterrent to crime, the studies are legion. Read a few of them, starting with the ones from a century ago and working your way forward. You can find all the facts, statistics and proofs you want from any number of them. Given that the entire civilized (western, at least) world, with the exception of the US, that sactimonious arbiter of human rights, has long since abandoned the death penalty, questions of the morality and utility of killing criminals (along with mistakenly convicted innocents) should be self-evident.

For me, my stand against it is a moral one, not a financial one. It's morally diminishing to society.
