Kids will hide anything if they think that they will get any form of punishment, including a 'bad look'. While I am a BIG believer in an open and honest dialog with your kids like others suggest, YOU are the grown-up. If you want to monitor your son, do it. I will leave it up to you if you tell him that he is being monitored. Maybe if he knows (and most importantly - why he is being monitored), there will be a respect for the boundaries that you have put down for him to obey.
HOW:
Give him his own limited account username and password. Do not give him admin rights. When you logon using your own ID (as admin), you can look through a bunch of folders to not only see the sites, but most of the conversations as well.
If you have a router, you can configure the router to send site logs to YOUR email address regularly. You will only see the domain names (YAHOO.COM, etc), but you will know where he goes.
Keyloggers need to be looked at with care, and if he knows which one you have, he can easily bypass. This is the element of secrecy that is on your side. If he doesn't know he is being monitored, he wont know to look for it.
Good luck.

How about talking openly to your child and seeing his reaction?
If you install a program to watch him, there is a big chance he will realize it soon and lose his all trust in you and next time he will just be more careful, but if he believes he can trust you, he would open up to you all the time and you would always know what is going on.

Go to your local computer store and ask them...they will sell you a software program that will track everything, even every keystroke your child makes, so you can track the history and who is talking to and what they are talking about--protecting your children from online pedophiles is more important that their privacy!

From a logical view, routers have 2 aspects. A LAN (community section community) aspect and a WAN (huge section community) aspect. instantaneous routers are commonly actually instantaneous on the LAN aspect of the gadget, yet want to be stressed to a "gateway" (like a DSL gateway or cable modem) on the WAN aspect. Your computer is picking up a instantaneous signal because this is speaking with somebody else's instantaneous router on its LAN aspect. in case you actually have a instantaneous router you will be able to connect consisting of your own router's LAN aspect. although, your neighbor's instantaneous router is proper to the internet on its WAN aspect by using a gateway. Yours has no such connection, and if it really is a house consumer grade gadget (like you could purchase at best purchase or Circuit city) then this is incapable of connecting on the WAN aspect in a instantaneous way. So, the speedy common answer is "no". Beside that, what you're doing by using "piggybacking" off your neighbor's internet get admission to is technically unlawful and likely rude.
