People who study the earth are called geologists. This comes from the roots "geo" which means "earth", or "ground" in some cases, and "ology" which means "the study of".
Other words in the same family are geography (study of the earth's surface, such as the locations of mountain ranges and rivers) and geology (study of the earth's workings, such as how volcanoes form, grow, and erupt).
