No my love, it is the MAN who needs someone - hence they see you living alone and want to be part of that. Tell them to bugger off because you are an modern, independant, capable, world-is-my-oyster "30 is the new 20", "40 is the new 30" kind of lady.

Are you in a relationship but living on your own or single?
I was on my own for a year or so and at the time just wasn't looking for anyone, when i did meet the right person i realised how much more i was enjoying life, just because there was someone there when i got home from work, when i woke up, etc, it's a good feeling.
Being single is no longer seen as something unusual, although some men will view it as someone definately available and so your probably going to get more guys interested in you.
I don't see this being the same as men assuming you NEED someone, there are more are more single people living alone now than ever because of divorces, etc.
We are programmed to see people ending up with a partner, doesn't everyone in the world try and fix up any male or female friend who is single?
And how annoying is that when your the single one?lol

That's a bit of a broad generalisation is it not?
Do you mean why is it that SOME men assume you need to have someone with you? If it is, then presumably the answer is simply that most people (male or female) would assume, unless they have evidence to the contrary, that a person would be happier with someone (male of female) than being alone. You could swap "men" and "women" around in your question and argue the same thing so I don't really see what a persons gender has to do with anything. I would imagine that most women would assume you'd be happier with some company too.

Unfortunatly a lot of men seem to be like that, first sign of a women appearing on her own and they all dive in there, sadly some women think the same way, that there must be somthing wrong if they are single. I run a bar and as soon as a single women walks in the door every male with in the place is pouncing, trying to buy her drinks etc, all trying there luck, I think they forget that you are a person too and if you choose and are happy living your life, thats your decison

How else can a man feel important? Men love to be heroes to women, so they don't like to think that a woman can survive without them. They look at you as a threat. If you don't need a man, then what if all women decided that they did not need a man? The last thing men want is to feel is useless and unimportant.

Depends how old you are and if you have ghosts from a previous relationship.
Women are rarely free from all attachments. Men are rarely free either, but may be occasionally.
It is dialogue. What you may say will influence their attitude. e.g "if you ask what they do for a living?".
Otherwise, they may be just swingers wanting sex without any baggage, woman mostly.
Chaotics don't make assumptions: they just say the first thing that comes into their head!

They are probably jealous that you are emotionally strong to live by yourself. Anyway why are they assuming you don't have a boyfriend? There is also the fear factor over celibacy if indeed that is what you have chosen many people think you're missing something if you don't for a short period have a sex life.

I find with women that it makes no difference what a man thinks or assumes about them, the woman will always pick holes in it.

Because they think all women need a man. They don't think we can survive on our own but its usually men who are down the pub crying in their beer when they break up with someone.

Because it's nature and men find it very hard to understand why a women would want to be on her own. I think it's very healthy and a great way to find urself.
