Probably fear of loss of power.
As we can see in Iraq, religion drives people, and religious leaders lead people. All these Jewish Rabbi's seeing this huge following by some newcomer is bound to cause a major problem for them.
So the Rabbi's tell their congregation that false gods are a threat, and the Jews get him crucified.

The filthy Jews told the Romans to kill him.there still murdering people.. look at the way the kill there neighbors. two people kidnapped. then they kill over a 1000 people and destroy there country. they take peoples land and bulldoze there homes. kill there children for throwing rocks at tanks. and then call them terrorists if they fight back.I sure as hell would fight back. the Jews are evil people.Y'all
