Zé (IPA /zɛ/) in Portuguese is a common short form of the name José. Portuguese José, pron. (IPA /ʒu'zɛ/).

Note that in Portuguese a "J" is always pronounced as a ʒ and never as h.

Zé is to José as Joe is to Joseph.
