Should Supreme Court justices continue to have life tenure?

Supreme Court justices should continue to have life tenure. Up till today, we have had many Supreme Court justices who have served until their death or retirement. These justices have done a great job in running our country despite their age. They have also done a great job with keeping our judicial system alive and correctly functioning without politics. Life tenures should continue to be granted to Supreme Court justices because experience is everything when it comes to making decisions, because limited tenure would cause the game of politics to be brought into our judicial system, and because there is no need to improve our system when it is running fine at the moment and in the past.

does it sound good to you? any comments or suggestions?

thanks =] happy holidays && gnite for tnite =]

I've edited it to how I think it should go. If you have to use because that many times, it should be it's own sentence. When making assertions, do not make all or nothing statements (everything) without having facts to back them up. I replaced "everything" with "extremely important. It sounds less extreme and more opinion based. Here is my edited version:

Supreme Court justices should continue to have tenure. In our current system, we have had many Supreme Court justices who have served until their death or retirement. These justices have done an outstanding job of running our country regardless of their age. They have also done a great job with keeping our judicial system alive and correctly functioning without politics. Life tenures should continue to be granted to Supreme Court justices because experience is extremely important when it comes to making decisions. Limited tenure would cause the game of politics to be brought into our judicial system. There is no need to improve our system when it is running fine at the moment and in the past.

Um, I'm not sure of your age or grade level or how long your paper is supposed to be, but your response is really vague and you don't provide any evidence to support your opinion. You do have a good point about how life experience is important but where is your proof that "things are running fine"? Plus, there are plenty of political games when appointing Supreme Court justices--that was one of the arguments made during the recount of 2000. Democrats argued that since George Bush senior and Ronald Reagan (both Republicans) appointed most of the Supreme Court Justices, that the Justices felt loyalty towards the Republicans and awarded George W. Bush the presidency in 2000 (I'm not trying to start an argument over Bush vs. Gore in 2000--I'm just trying to provide an example). This is an example of how politics can affect the Supreme Court.

To improve your assignment, I would try and find some examples that support what you're saying. Maybe compare the Supreme Court to a monarchy--a monarch has a lifetime tenure in their position--is that always a good thing?
