Also, have you ever met a woman who never worked outside of her home?. Are most homemakers in this day and age married to rich men and do you think it is wise for a woman to stay home even if her husband is secure financially?.

NEVER worked outside the home? Not really. Even my mother worked before she married and for a while when I was young. Then after my sisters and brothers came, she stayed home.

Hardly anyone aspires to anything other than staying at home while their children are small. Anything other than that is just very expensive for most families.

I think that judgement call should be made between the two people involved and how that will affect their financial lives. From a few stories I have seen on 60 minutes and Primetime, it is actually quite easy to still live this way as long as the couple is not trying to live outside of their means, or one of them makes more than enough money to be the sole financial support.

And yes there are still women, and men, who stay home and have never worked a day in their lives. I am not one of them, but I do know some people who fit the profile.

I am a homemaker, I worked the first four years we were married while my husband went to grad school full-time. After we had kids I stayed home. I also have a serious chronic illness. I did not go back to work when my sons went to college, due to my illness. When I am able I volunteer, since I am too ill to keep a job. My husband is a great guy and takes care of our income without complaint. I take care of the home, laundry, shopping, meals and errands as much as possible. We have been married happily for 25 years. (I have a B.S. degree and my husband has a PhD).

I have a friend that has not been employed since she married and that works for her family. They have also been married 25 years.

They hire house keepers. I don't think women stay home anymore because they have so many options. No, not all are married to rich men, and it is only wise to stay home if it makes her happy. Most of us have to work for a second income....

Most women who never hold a job these days are actually quite poor. they generally got married right out of igh school, often before graduating and had 4 or more children in rapid succession. And as for your first question, women never retire. there is always more housework to do.
