It's a coping mechanism for some. If these people reduce the concept of war and evil to something as trivial as the latest conspiracy theory, they simply won't have to admit that our country is in a war with enemies who hate us. Some people are too weak minded to grasp these powerful concepts of good and evil and hate. For them the world is generally good, and filled with benevolent leaders who respect individual rights. Many can't understand that this concept was first penned in our Bill of Rights, and was a unique concept designed by our forefathers. Speaking as a world traveller and a Desert Storm Marine, I can safely say that many live in a bubble of their own design.

Its that it is easier to believe the government did it than terrorists, its that you have to look at who benefited from this. If you study american history you will see that our involvement in all wars came at the monetary gain of a few powerful men. If you study the history of oil and our history with the middle east, you will see that certain things we have done made them hate us with such a passion. Honestly I am not going to explain it all here, but if you want I could explain it to you in a rational manner without saying because Bush is a numb nuts or something childish. I dont expect to change your mind but if you sincerely want to know I will take the time to explain it in great detail. I have not seen loose change or any other stupid movies that say it wasnt really planes or the buildings were bombed or any of that garbage either.

Actually Muse, this is probably one of the points where you and I might not agree for once. I think the reason why conspiracy theories, like the one expressed in the popular Internet documentary “Loose Change,” are entertained are not out of fear or reluctance to deal with foreigners who intend to kill us. In fact I think it would be far more terrifying to know that insiders within our government would use Americans as pawns, sacrificing our lives cavalierly, in order to advance some lofty geopolitical objective. A potential enemy within can’t be racially profiled, can’t be isolated to a particular area. It could be anyone. An enemy from within, being as ambiguous as internal enemies can be, is a far more fearsome enemy than an external agent. So I don’t think these alternative explanations as to what went down on 9/11 are engendered by fear, but by honest intent, and in some cases well-researched suppositions.
This might surprise you but I think the reason why many people are starting to suspect our government’s involvement in 9/11, or at least their willful allowance of 9/11 to occur, has something to with the fact that the sophistication of the attacks are not commensurate with the skill level, experience, and connections of those who are accused of committing the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Such a sophisticated orchestration of timed multiple airplane hijackings and circumventing security measures doesn’t seem to be fitting of men who could barely fly small private jets in training classes, and who had little to no formal military training, had very little knowledge of the country they were in, being recent immigrants, and much less knowledge of the security apparatus at our nation’s airports, and were armed with primitive cutting tools.
The group or entity that could pull of an attack like 9/11, with all its inherent complexity, is a highly organized unit, that is greatly specialized, fully trained, well connected, and used to performing covert operations on a grand scale. 19 average Middle Eastern civilians don’t comport with the above-mentioned ability. The group that does fit the bill would be a military outfit of great power. So a more likely candidate would be the United States or some established government, not a loosely organized group of terror cells.
If this nation’s President can lead the nation into war, sacrifice numerous troops and foreign civilians needlessly, all under false pretenses, and then willfully pursue measures that curtail US citizens’ civil liberties, why would you think he or his associates would be above the sort of deception that many think the government had been partaking in concerning 9/11? If they can lie as to the reasons to invade a country and sacrifice countless lives on both sides, why can’t they lie to the American public, via some cataclysmic event contrived by them, in order elicit American support for their foreign policy objectives?
It is something to think about.

Maybe they thought they recognized one of the terrorists in the tapes. If you thought one of them was your old class mate, maybe you would have questions too.
I just can't figure out why these planted terrorists who hate America so much would pretend to be responsible for the attacks when they would have hurt us worse by implicating the President.
Those who think our Government was responsible are just full of hate, plain and simple.

I blame the secularization of our culture. When you teach an entire generation of children that religion is all myth and evil mind control, you leave empty hearts, searching for something to believe in. And you create cynical beings.
We all have to believe in something.

Because of the pre-conceived notion that the person who benefits the most is likely the one to blame and to believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see.
The nature of government conspiracy is deception and manipulation, so conspiracy theorists will always have a hard time gaining traction with the rest of society. It's not completely baseless to suggest the possibility that the U.S. government was involved, because there is some good evidence to perpetuate the conspiracy theories and/or refute the official version of events. Conspiracy theorists can cross a line, however, where they refuse to see any evidence that refutes their argument, and can't let go of ideas that have already been disproven. They have a hard time conceeding, and anybody against them is one of "them" or brainwashed. I've been in that boat. I got out after a few months of making everybody scared for my mental health. I guess I'm one of "them" now too.

I believe its an insecurity thing. They would rather think their own government planned it rather than admit it was so easy for terrorists to get into the country and wreak havoc.

It's probably more because they knew trouble was brewing in the White House, at the time, the president needed a diversion & an excuse to go after saddam & they don't trust the present administration.

You may be right.
It's very strange.
When I first got on Yahoo, I thought that these freaks that believed we committed 9/11 ourselves, were just little kids playing around.
But, later I was SHOCKED to find out that these were actually adult Democrats.
They declared the Terrorists innocent and us guilty.
These weirdos frighten me just as much as the terrorists do.
Wow! Look at all the nuts that still believe it.

Several things:
1. They want to believe that they're "in" on secret information which the rest of us do not know;
2. It tends to make them feel superior to the rest of us "sheep";
3. It is a way to vent frustration against government, especially if that government is Republican (liberals whine the most and loudest);
They're not worthy anyone's attention. Popular Mechanics debunked the myths long ago.
