I have been trying to figure out what this actually MEANS:

The cause of liberty is a cause of too much dignity to be sullied by turbulence and tumult. It ought to be maintained in a manner suitable to her nature...I hope, my dear countrymen, that would will in every colony be upon your guard against those who at any time endeavour to stir you up, under pretences of patriotism, to any measures of disrespectful to our sovereign and our mother country.

This is a selection, probably from one of the Founding Fathers, during the writing of the constitution or after the Revolutionary War. It basically means that liberty is something that America and its residents should hold dear and treasure, but it is also fragile and suseptable to forces, even extreme patriotism that may sully it. It's a warning that liberty is so important and powerful, but certain people (who may act as patriots) may actually cause us harm. In this way, liberty can also be good and bad. Sounds very much like an allegory for America's political situation today.

This is I believe, the "Sunshine Patriots" essay. This is a caution to the likes of Thomas Paine, Adams, and Hamilton who were radical separatists. The cause of liberty is too dear to be hijacked by someone's personal political agenda. Or to put it another way, make sure that appeals to patriotism are to defend liberty, not to help someone with an axe to grind.

Here it is:

You did want it in French, right?

Freedom could be better gained for all if there were not so many people who had such huge egos. Our search for personel freedom & happiness should not offend or destroy someone else's life.
