Two sides to this one, really.

If they hadn't taken the drugs, then they would have lived longer and/or been able to play longer... but there would be no songs about stupid bloody Tuesday, homeless mice, or anything like that. (Come to think of it, had there been no LSD in Syd Barrett's system, Roger Waters would have lost a good bit of his inspiration point). Actually, it would probably sound a bit like today's music. Yikes!

Since they did take it, though, we have great songs about hallucinations and whatnot. However, it has also led to people being kicked out of bands and overdosing. Imagine if Jimi never took it. Purple Haze would never exist! What would the world do without being confused over if he kissed a guy or the sky?

It's two sides of the quarter. I say that this time it lands on heads!

in my opinion some of the best music came from drug adled minds. the beatles albums got way less poppy and a bit more experimetnal when they started doing drugs, same with pink floyd. but my favorite examples are bands like stone temple pilots and janes addiction. they made the greatest music when the lead singers had needles in their arms. and then they got clean and the music went down hill and the bands broke up. i hate the drugs but i love the music they make!
