Most creative way to save change and what to save for?

First report your friend who's scam is "better than saving money."
I did. I get a nice decorative small jar. When it's full I go buy another larger jar. When it's full I go buy another still larger jar. Soon you have a very interesting conversation piece. And a nice little stash for emergencies. I've got a five gallon jug I bought at a wine making store full of pennies. I've got another three gallon jug that's almost full of pennies and nickels. You can separate the pennies from the silver coins. I have a few smaller jars that are just quarters or dimes. It's fun. I'd say if you want to spend some, just spend one denomination. Save more and have something unique.

everytime you get change put in in a cup, if u c a nickel or penny or dime or any money on the floor pick it up and put it in the cup good luck :)
