I'm just asking this to see how many corporate-defending bastards come to the rescue here on Yahoo! Answers.

No, the corporation isn't always right. And the employee isn't always wrong either. What the corporation has over the employee is at will employment. You are free to quit at anytime just as they are free to let you go at any time without reason.

Without knowing exactly what you're right or wrong about, it would be safe to say that most companies write their own handbooks, and most of the time, when there is a conflict, they refer to the handbook. Just because they have some rule in place, they will fall back on it even when they didn't do the right thing. It's hard to explain. At my company, they have a big fat handbook, and most of the time, they can justify bad behavior by falling back on a rule in the book, that in turn falls back on another rule and it turns into a circle of sorts. So the company comes out smelling like a rose everytime.
