Nettles was also one of the greatest fielding third basemen of all time. He was known for unbelievable quickness and impossible diving stops of balls smoked down the line. He must have saved hundreds of doubles in his career. Many people talk about Schmidt or Brooks Robinson, but Nettles was the best fielding third baseman I ever saw.
Another aspect of his game was his tendency to be insanely streaky in his hitting (sort of comparable to Tino Martinez), he hit 11 homers in April 1974 (I believe this is still a record).

Graig Nettles. He was the best 3rd baseman in the Yankees history. He was also great at power-hitting. The second best 3rd baseman was the one right before him, Clete Boyer.
