Why are celebrities involved in so much more than just acting/singing?

I thought their jobs were to just sing and act but now more of them are all over politics, environmental studies, humanitarian acts, etc...that's irrelevant to their normal day job.Do they get a choice to do it or not or does it just come with the package?

I think that all the stuff celebrities get involved in is part of the packagee, but only because they get sooo tempted to do the things everyone else is doing! and yes it does get annoying, but it's there choice and there life and if they want to live it wrong they can go rite ahead...but personally i know that it will all come back to haunt them.

They have money and famous, recognizable faces. Most charities and politicians love to have them speak for their cause; they think it lends credibility. I would like to see a celebrity have the balls to talk about the over-medicating of children that goes on in the U.S.

It's all about public relations and getting their picture in the paper. That is how they remain celebrities. If they keep up good name recognition, then they will demand more money from the producers.

they want to lend their names to good causes but in other situations, celebs feel like their fame gives them more authority in opinion and persuading others to swing their way. plus, whatever keeps them in the news is guaranteed to keep their career strong.
