For most women, they ovulate 14 days BEFORE their next cycle is set to begin (NOT in the middle or 14 days after their period starts, unless you happen to be in the very small minority of women who have exactly 28 day cycles.....but if you have a 34 day cycle, you'd generally ovulate around day 20).

Sperm can live in the fallopian tubes up to 5-ish days, so technically you are fertile (it's possible to get pregnant) starting 5 days before you ovulate, and usually ending the day of ovulation (but sometimes the day after too). But the window of opportunity is about 5 days. For women who only have 28 day cycles, and have their period for 6-7 days, that leaves 21 days period free, and of those days, 5 of them they could get pregnant.

Lucky are the women who don't have to try to get pregnant...it took me and my husband 9 months of trying, so it really isn't that easy for everyone.

The best advice I can give you is to check out a book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It goes in depth on ovulation and fertility and how and when you can get preg. It's kinda long and not easy to explain in a short answer. But you are technically fertile for a week or so, because when you are getting ready to ovulate(which is anytime in your cycle not after 14 days although that is somewhat of an average day for ovulation) your uterus and vagina start becoming more hospitible to your partners sperm (sperm can live up to five days in fertile conditions). so even if you don't have sex for 2 day before you think you may ovulate you can still get preg.

Just because you're fertile on the day you ovulate doesn't mean you can only get pregnant then. Every woman is different and few are on a cycle regular enough to say that ovulations happens 14 days after your period.

Couples having trouble track ovulation to further their chances of getting pregnant. However, you can get pregnant at any point. You can even get pregnant during your period if the situation is right.

well you only have 24 hrs but a sperm can live for 3-5 days so you actually have like 3-5 days. that makes chances a lot bigger.Yes It can be it takes anywhere from 1 month to -1 year for normal healthy couples to conceive but on the normal side it is around 3 months.

they probably were having a lot of sex and didn't really think about it. when you are trying to conceive and get it down to a science, you can become too stressed out about it all, trying to get in that window to conceive...remember the best part about it all is the trying! have fun and most of RELAX!

i just finished taking a sexual reproduction class in college and i can answer this question.

first find when your average cycle period is...24 days, 28 days, etc.

next substract 10 days from that and you will get the average day that you ovulate.

in order to get pregnant and maximize the chance, have sexual intercourse every other day for six days leading up to pregnancy. this is the best chance. that is been scientific tested to be the best way to get pregnant.
