I have recently had a hysterectomy, where they cut me from my belly button down, I have now got a lump next to my scar that is very painful. My doctor felt it yesterday, and was getting me to cough, I explained it was very painful, he said it will be!(some help)he said it was a weakness in the muscle wall, I take it from this he means a hernia? If so, is it normal for it to be so painful, I can't wear most of my clothes as they rest on it. Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Sounds like a hernia. Still, you should phone his nurse and ask her to confirm this from your chart. Also ask for a time frame as to when it should start feeling better. State clearly and strongly how much this hurts & the extent to which it interferes with your dressing & daily activities. Ask at what point you should take action if it's not feeling better.
If you get no satisfactory attention/answers, seek a 2nd opinion from a Dr. who is a more skilled listener & communicator. Reasearch hernias on WebMD & other good sites, and be aware that without adequate treatment it can cause tissue strangulation-a very painful emergency.
Not to scare you, but your instincts are right, and you need some better answers now.
Take good care, said a prayer for you, hope you are recovering more quickly very soon.

Don't worry. Sure sounds like a hernia but that's a complication that happens alot and is easily fixed. I have 2 friends both of whom had major surgery and with in the next year they both have gone in to have a hernia repaired. Usually its caused by weakness in your abs from the surgery. And after surgery to fix it you can get your self back to normal. If it hurts really badly, and your doctor didn't seem to get that... call him ask him what he's gonna do about it. And if you don't think he's really hearing you about how much it hurts.... get a second oppinion... Here's some info from healthline.com

Yes thats a hernia and it must be surgically repaired. It can grow in size and become even more painful. Go back to your surgeon and show him your lump and tell him how painful it is, he should schedule you for surgery fairly quickly. Make sure you have someone to care for you for day or two and someone to clean for three or four weeks. I've had two of these and it hurts far more and far longer than you expect. But it beats the heck out of suffering with it unoperated on.

That sounds like a hernia to me. And, yes, they can be painful. Ask the surgeon who did your surgery if he will fix it. Often they do it free or at a very reduced price if it's a result of your hysterectomy.

My boyfriend had a hernia back in December, now he had his surgery right away. The surgery is not particularly risky, i don't think its even considered major surgery, but it is surgery. When he had his surgery he was put to sleep, it was a relatively quick surgery. They used a local anesthetic for the pain but it has been seven months since the surgery, he is perfectly fine but he is still numb from the local anesthetic. He is finally regaining his feeling back though. I wish you two the bast of luck :)

Hernia surgery is have become very common now. My cousin got her Hernia and colostomy surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for Minimal Invasive and Laparoscopy surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange Hernia, Appendectomy, Thyroid and other laparoscopy surgery for foreigners in India.
I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the Hernia, Colostomy and other minimal invasive surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Many patients travel from United States of America and UK to get low cost surgery in India. Indian corporate hospitals are comparable to hospitals anywhere in the world. In fact, India has medical facilities that are comparable with the USA, UK and Canada. India offers World Class Medical Facilities, comparable with any of the western countries. yes, a hernia hurts like hell, and yes, you can get one after abdominal surgery. i would wager also that after that sort of surgery is a really bad time to have one. i'm not sure if your doctor meant that was your problem, a hernia can be pretty serious and i'm sure he'd tell you directly if you had one. go back to that doctor and make him tell you what's really up.

yup, sounds like a hernia, and if it is painful it should be repaired, shame on your doctor for not pointing that out to you.
