depending on where you live there should be a recording studio in your area, check the phone book. However, renting time at a studio can be expensive so you should really want to look into someone to produce your music, so you know exactly what you want and a good idea of how you want it to sound once you get in there. Its a good idea to make home demos using software or even tape recorders. for sending the cd places you have a few options. You could go on the websites of all your favorite artist's recording labels and see if they accept submissions. In addition, you should look into booking yourself for live shows, the best way to get noticed and get a cd out there is in public. Use craigslist.com or find local clubs for gig opportunities. Unfortunately, unless you are extremely lucky and determined you probably are going to need someone who plays an instrument already so you have your own songs and your own bands. The people who just get discovered and have everything made for them are just ridiculously lucky because they were at the right place at the right time, or they had enough money to fund it. good luck with making your cd.

If you're talking about getting a contract, good luck, I busted my rear-end off for 18 years, in the end, I just founded my own company and produce my own work, failing that, you could always sell the music yourself.

For recording your music, you could use input channels on something like eJay, which can be picked up for about £10, same for an old copy of Nero 5.

You know, w/ today's technology, you could literally do it all at home. Even the promoting. Macs have a program called "Garage band" or something like that, get a mic, sing, cut your tracks, & then promote it on Myspace. That's what A LOT of bands are doing these days....
