It means: Know who you are marrying before you marry them lest you get married to an individual that is wrong for you. After you are married ignore (show tolerance towards) the things you don't like about them for the sake of your marriage.

Before marriage keep both eyes open (to know what you are getting yourself into for the long term) and after marriage, Keep one eye open (meaning trust your spouse and keep your nest safe from potential homewreckers if need be)!

It means before marriage there is always the possibility of someone else more suited for you out there and you should keep that door open. After marriage,it means that you have made a lifetime commitment and that door is no longer open. That is why people should never enter the commitment of marriage without a lot of thought.

Actually, no the Bible doesn't say that. In most of the Bible it says that if you have sex, or are raped, that's equivalent to "marriage", the man just has to pay off the girl's father. Women were property, and their wombs were their most important quality. Girls weren't supposed to have sex because then they wouldn't be worth as much, because their prospective "husbands" didn't want to be cuckholded. In Song of Solomon, however, presents a relationship that is much more like modern times. The woman is presented as an equal partner to the man, not property, not a walking womb. And the two lovers have sex before they are married, and their intimacy is celebrated, not condemned. Nowadays, women are recognized as equal to men, and sex doesn't "ruin" anyone. It doesn't make people worth less or more. Yes, it's nice to have sex with someone you love, but that's not required. If that's how you decide for yourself, then that's a-ok. Just don't look down on people who don't put the same requirement on themselves. Not having sex until marriage is really quite bizarre in modern times, where the marriage partners are equal and we know that people are more than just their genitals.

I suppose it means that before you marry someone, keep your eyes open to anything about that person that could become an issue later. After you are committed, close your eyes to the little annoyances. Good luck!

I think we are all human and your eyes should always be open, it doesn't mean your pants need to be. It is human instinct to seek approval and wanting to be attractive to the opposite sex married or not. I think if you make yourself happy without intentionally hurting anyone that's what matters. If you are miserable married and someone comes along, leave and move on. Just be honest with yourself and all involved and the rest will come easy.
