at most car part stores you can get a lil red light that will blink and what you can do is drill a small hole and put it in the dash some where that looks like a stock alarm would be then just wire it to constant power and put a switch in so you can turn it off when you want too it gives you the look of haveing a fance alarm for a few bucks

Well i had this problem in another country but...i will try to help.
Like you, i had money for the car and little else.
I began to leave the car open, (they break windows to get to the inside) with a crap radio and sometimes with no radio at all (no radio will piss them off, be warned!!)
When they get to your car they will want to leave soon so if there is nothing there to remove they will leave to collect somewere else.
Nevertheless contact the local authorities, (information is power for police) even when they take nothing. For sure you will have to immobilize your car if you want it to be there next morning. There are many ways to keep your car immobilized by removing parts from engine. It's very easy and they will not carry spare engines parts just in case they come across your car. Contact your local garage for this type of advice as it depends on the make of your car.
There you go...have a nice life!!!

The easiest way is to remove any incentive for someone to break in. Remove everything of value from the car when it's parked. No one is going to break in to steal a factory AM/FM radio but extras in your car could very well be a target.

- Park your car in a well lit area
- Don't leave loose change, cassettes or CD's in the car
- Don't leave anything in the car that's not part of the car
- Leave your glove box and center console open to show there's nothing to steal
- Put your registration in your purse, wallet, handbag, etc. and take it with you

Make sure nothing that may tempt a would-be robber is in plain sight...that is the simplest way to deter thieves.
