Medieval II Total War?

Question

is this game, for the pc an online game, I am thinking of buying it and am not sure if you can play other people online. if not, what other rts for the pc would you recommend?

Medieval: Total War and Rome: Total war have been two my favorite RTS games. I still play RTR (realism mod) from time to time years after getting it.

That being said the the AI in MTW2 is fairly weak and to the best of my knowledge only the actual battles may be fought in via the multi-player function. If your looking for a game for mostly online play I'd find something else.
