Yes you can. To the best of my knowledge, Playstation is rather unique in this way. They allow the older games to be played on their new systems, while other gaming systems don't.

yes my friend you can play your playstation games on your ps3 system just as long as it has the family logo on the game case.
for example:
PS games can beplayed on your p2s2, or your
ps3 system!

According to the online reviews I Have read thus far, yes. Almost all of them are back-compatible. Unsure which ones are not, but there are not many, to my knowledge.
