The best way? Well, this isn't the cheapest by any stretch but it is probably the best. Take your car to a professional detailing service and have them steam clean the affected area using a grease/oil cutting emulsifier and detergent (kind of like dishwashing liquid on steroids). This, combined with the high heat of the steam cleaner, will remove all the oil and petroleum residue from your car's carpet.

You'll love the results but, like I said, it ain't cheap!

You need to go to a auto parts store and get some Carburetor cleaner and some old towels. Spray a small spot on the carpet with the Carburetor cleaner in a inconspicuous area to see if the color bleeds. If it doesn't harm the color try to put a old towel between the floor and the carpet. Spray the stained area, it will go through the carpet onto the old towel. if you can't get under the carpet, spray the stain and blot the spot with the old towels.

The first thing to do is have the oil leak corrected. If the stain is still "wet" absorb with kitty litter, vacuum, and blot with paper towels and follow with same type treatment you would use for household carpet. A lot of laundry detergents can also be used including clear ammonia (follow the instructions).

I don't mean to sound like an infomercial, but if you get a tub of oxy clean and dampen the area with water, then sprinkle the oxiclean on the area, letting it set for a few minutes and then scrub with a wet wash rag dipping it in warm water to freshen it, the stain should come out.

I tried this on our white carpet after my little brother spilled grape juice (It was even dry and soaked in!) and various other horrific foods that make bad stains.

It would at least be worth a shot for the sake of your car! But that stuff works wonders!

i would go to a local supper market and they have those rentable rug doctors rent one with a hose and do your whole carpet with it
