Definitely not colored. That reminds me of the days that black people were beaten, and hosed down in the streets. It reeks of segregation. Whites only VS. Colored. So, no.. don't call black people colored.

Doh! I'm not black! I am going to answer anyhow.

The term "colored" was coined during the 40 and 50's as a derogatory description. You are ALLOWED to feel however you want, however, as you grow you will learn that it is all in the context.

That is, if a person means to insult you by calling you colored then you should feel insulted.

However, if a person is using the term without meaning offense, you can still feel insulted, but what is really happening is inside of you, not external.

When you are offended you should almost always let the person know. If they meant no offense, then the remark can be withdrawn, and you have helped someone learn more about you, and perhaps themselves.

This took me MANY years to come to but... The only thing you can truly control is how you react and feel.

Good luck with all.

I am white and the circle of people I know here in Canada plus myself think all races are beautiful especally black. I think what you said about (darned rainbow ) is cute and I cant blame U for seeing it that way. Races reguardless of colour are a beautifull variety .Can you imagine if all flowers were the same colour. Be black and proud.EDIT-- Way to go I'm there for U.

You have been fooled into thinking you have made progress because you refer to yourself as African or black, instead of *****, or ******. You have not made any progress, calling yourself black and African is the same as calling yourself ***** and ******. They are all bywords and proverbs they still don't explain who you are, just as the word coloured.

When you call yourself black what does that mean? What is a black? Black does not constitute a nationality or culture. It is something that was created to keep you ignorant of your true Identity. Every man on earth is describe by his nation (Nationality), Chinese are people from China, Irish are people from Ireland, Polish are people from Poland, Mexicans are People from Mexico, Blacks are people from where? Black is a word that should be used to describe a noun. A black car, black skin, black hair, black book etc. If you look up the word black in any English dictionary, you will find at least 35 different definitions. And out of those 35, more than half will have a negative meaning such as: EVIL, WICKED, GLOOMY, DEATH AND UNPLEASANT just to name a few.

There has never been A ONE UNIFIED GROUP WHO IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES BY THE TERM BLACK that's a European Racist creation, So is the Myth of an "AFRICAN PEOPLE". Dealing with mankind on the basics of skin color is the doctrine of the devil.

The same can be said for AMERICA, it's not a COUNTRY, TRIBE, NATIONALITY OR LANGUAGE. America is also the name of a continent, it's divided into three parts NORTH, CENTRAL AND SOUTH. The United States is a country on the continent of America, and in the United States You have every ethnic / racial group living here. All these groups can name their national homeland, no matter how long they have resided in this country. For EXAMPLE: Germans are from Germany, Irish are from Ireland, Italians from Italy etc.

Do America represent YOU, Throughtout history has America represented your language, culture, religion, and way of life? Even today do America represent YOU, when a "black" person do something for "black people" why do America call them segregated or even racist? America is a land in which many people live and only represents the land they are born not what they believe. If America represents your culture, customs and way of life and your people then you are a American.

Same with Africa everyone who lives happens to have the same color skin do not mean they're all the same.

In Order to deny the truth, they created a lie. They took one indigenous tribe in Africa who still had traditional or what they call primitive culture and said this is how ALL black skin people are. They all wear plates in the lips, swing from trees, don't have a written language etc etc. Today you have so called black scholars using the same terminology the gentiles racist created in order to deceive us. The people on the continent of Africa don't buy into the Gentile racist doctrine of all being one nation because we all have similar skin color. They see themselves as different nations and always have.

I find it hard to believe that you are being referred to as "coloured" since that wording went out with the civil rights era. With the spelling of the word, I imagine you must live abroad - like the UK or something.

"The term "colored" in particular (along with "*****") has fallen out of popular usage in the United States over the last third of the 20th century, and is now archaic and potentially derogatory."

People using that terminology should be always be ignored.

Black. Coloured went out before I was born...it sounds odd. There is an island in The Bahamas called Long Island and they use "coloured", I'm not offended...its just thier term not meant to be nasty.

I HATE being called *****, Afro/African, and Coloured. BUT as long as its not meant to insult.

Colored is a fancy, kind word where I'm from. "Over there, ask the colored gentleman. That's Skeet, and he's been a friend of the family for years".
