hey katrina, why would she call Alcoholics Anonymous to tow her car? anyway, you may have blown the engine.

Definitely need more info for this one. However check the following...
1. Check the oil level (whilst on level ground)
2. Check the cam belt to see if it's broken if you can - you'll need to remove at least 1 cover to do this.
3. Get a spanner and turn the engine by hand if you find it really difficult to turn then you have a problem.
When you say burning is this an electric arcing type burning or a rubber or oil burning?
If in doubt call out a mobile mechanic they shouldn't be too expensive.

it sounds to me like
the timing belt has broken if this is the case you are looking at about £250-£300 to get it fixed depending on how many valves have got bent. does it seem to turn over fast when you try to start it? the clunking noise would have been the valves hitting the pistons when the belt broke. Hopefully it is something else but it is hard to tell with that description. sorry to bring bad news

might be a bad fuel pump. You really didn't give us much to go on here. Things to mention: Was it running and just quit and wont restart? How fast is it turning over? Has it been acting funny before it did this, such as sputtering, jerking, etc? Every bit of info you can give would help you get a better answer.

On a Clio it could be lack of oil (check level ) tappets not opening
water pump collapsed (cam belt failed ) lost water head gasket

Are you out of oil? If so, you fried the engine. You'll probably need a new engine.

Sounds like a battery/starter motor prob to me..Sounds silly but does the car 'turn over ok' even though it doesn't start? have you checked your oil at all?
