when one of your team mates dies how do you bring them back to life? Also whats a good site to find out how many hit points the bad guys have?

you cannot ever buy phoenix downs, either. i'm not sure if they are in FFII, but this is one of the first games that ever HAD phoenix downs.
you'll find phoenix downs in many chests throughout the game. remember, as in any other rpg, the WRONG way is always the first place you want to go - never rush through a level
whenever you see a body of water that seems to have no purpose, always talk to it. some of them replenish your hp and status for free, instead of using an inn. some revive team members.
to check for enemy hp, you can go to a site like http://www.ffcompendium.com or http://gamefaqs.com but you'll need to do a little searching in both of those links i put there. you can also use the scholar class to study the enemy, but knowing their hp doesn't really help you much, unless it's a boss

Apart from Phoenix Downs and the Raise spell, there are places in nearly every town that feature an empty house with a pool of water -press A and your dead characters will be restored.
I'd venture to say that GameFAQs is as good a website as any for the kind of information you are looking for.
