Please only answer if you know what you are talking about. When I say Ivy League caliber, I mean all the Ivies and other elite non-Ivies like Duke, Stanford, Rice, etc.

I graduated from the Honors College at a large university. I LOVED it! Of course an Ivy League Education will open doors, but you will certainly pay for it!

Go Ivy if you are planning on attending Grad School. save your money in undergrad by attending an Honors College.

I know plenty of people like your friend. Colleges, especially the Ivies want students that will offer something that will make the college benefit. Just grades won't do it. Yes, if she wins a big competition it helps, but it is obvious to the school she is only concerned about be the best and having good grades, but where does that put her for the future when she is in some profession. She won't get grades anymore. This is the typical person that expects to get in everywhere and becomes real surprised when no Ivy league accepts her. My friend is doing that now and she is so stress because she might get an A instead of an A+ in high school. She always says to me, "Oh my god, I might get an A in physics, which means I'm not getting into college." Now I don't speak to her anymore because my GPA is 3.9 and hers is 4.0 and she always complains about it. You sound more like me. My rank is also 15th in a class of between 550 and 600 students. I will have 11 APs over 4 years, but school offers more APs than many other schools. I am president of a club and I have multiple awards and 1st places at competitions form extracurriculars and outside of school research. I think you and I are the better applicants because we show that we offer leadership and will participate in activities on campus and contribute to the college. I also have a lot of passion for some classes especially sciences, which is pretty evident. That is evidence of higher intellectual promise which is very important. I am a junior looking towards Ivy League schools, and I think applicants like you and I have the best shots. Also, someone comprised a list of people form my school that have the best shots at the most selective schools. I made the list even ahead of many people with higher GPA's and ranks than mine.

My sister and some of my friends were in the honor program at my undergrad. I didn't think it was worth it. My sister passed up Berkeley for it. I think she woulda been better off going to the better named school.

It can depend on what you end up doing after college. If it's something like business, for sure go to the Ivy type school. If it's English, tuition might not be worth it.

Ivy - How do you compare a Harvard, Yale, Penn, etc. to the Univ. of Florida? Sorry, you can call me an elitist.
