Your hard drive may have failed, your motherboard may have lost the IDE port or your CMOS battery may have died causing the computer to lose the information about your drive.
Most likely is the hard drive having died.

It does indeed sound like you hard drive is the problem.
It should be easy to remove for replacement , usually there is a flap on the side that opens whereupon it will pull out, there may be a screw holding it in.
It may also be under the top cover at the front next to the touch-pad.
If you are not comfortable in doing it yourself then I advise taking it to a computer repair shop where they will give you a price for replacement.
It should cost less than £100 to replace.
I have done this a good many times in my job as a computer technician.
Another option and this is worst case scenario, your mainboard in the laptop may have developed a fault on the ide channel but I doubt it.
Hard to say for sure without looking.
One last thing- when switched on put your ear close to the machine and listen for a clicking/ticking noise. This would be the hard drive trying to find the boot sector of the disc. If you hear this then your hard drive has indeed failed.
If it is a new laptop then I advise getting it repaired under warranty.
I hope you have backed it up.

Well those beep your are getting are what they call post BIOS beeps. This will tell you if there is a problem and the computer can't boot. The IDE is most likey the HD. Check to make sure that the Hard drive is fully seated in the laptop. Also try taking the Hard drive out and reseating it back in. If that still fail, your HD might be shot

IDE is the way that your hard drive and CD Drive connect to your computer. More than likely your hard drive died. The worst possible scenario is that the IDE controller on your motherboard died.

I have just had a laptop problem and i would advice you to speak to your supplier of your laptop. They might have a technical support line and they might be able to help you in your problem. I contacted my laptop supplier and they took me step by step to resolve the problem and my laptop is working now.

If its trying to find IDE, it is probably a hard disk failure. Try replacing a hard disk. this is a common failure on certain compaq/HP models.
