You don't have to get a DVD writer, an external USB 2.0 DVD ROM would be fine, check you have USB 2.0 first, would only cost around NZ $100 and all the new games are coming out on DVD, it is more cost effective for the game publishers.

You need to have a DVD ROM drive on your PC versus a CD ROM drive. A lot of newer games now ship on DVD discs to cut down on having to use multiple CD's.

What you have bought is written on a DVD. You require a DVD-Rom drive to read it. The usual CD-ROMs are written on CDs and can be read in any disc drives. I'd suggest that you buy a DVD drive as it will be a worthwhile investment, will allow you to play DVD movies on your PC and, seeing as most games are now coming out on DVD-ROM, will enable you to continue you gaming into the future.

If I were you
I'd put a dvd RW on my christmas list. I suspect the best new PC games will be on DVD from now on, and they ain't expensive in hardware terms.

(enjoy the game when you run it)

the optical drive in your pc must be a cd re-writer you will have to invest in a dvd rewriter. these you can pick up at no great cost you can get one for £30 but then you will need to get someone to fit it for you.
