According to Amnesty International, more than 200 citizens have died after being tasered by the police. Many critics of tasers argue that tasers are being used on citizens very often and they are not being used as a last resort. In some cases, the police have tasered young children, senior citizens and citizens that have been sleeping. Type in the word "taser" on google, then search the news section and you will finf out that tasers are bing used to liberally on citizens.

Legal citizens need to liberally have a better device to zap the police with then! And not be trumped up with phony assault charges either!

Check the facts first, then complain...I mean real facts. Whether the actual cause of death in taser related cases is in fact the taser itself is very suspect. I would venture to say that if you look at the ENTIRE story, including police reports, on these 200 citizens that have allegedly been killed by a taser, you would find that in most, if not all, cases there was some other factor involved. "Other factors" include: drugs, alcohol, obesity, pre-existing medical conditions, among other things. Even still, lets say that 200 people did die as a direct result of the use of a taser...what is the time frame...I am pretty sure that 200 out of the entire population of the US could be considered a statistical anomaly. I would be interested in how many people have been killed by plastic utensils last year...shall we ban plastic spoons?

There is a fundamental problem with this entire issue....people break the law. I think that maybe we have forgotten in this country that when you break the law...certain rights are forfeited. If you cooperate with the police...THEY WILL NOT USE A TASER ON YOU. If you run, or resist, or assault, or freak out...they just might use force...which could include a taser. It is not the fault of the police officer that people do not obey the law.

Also, the question states that they have used tasers on young children...how young...what exactly is a young child...is 11 or 12 young...when I was that age I was 5'11" about 250lbs. If I was going crazy and resisting arrest...I could most likely be a serious threat to an averaged size grown man.

Think before you jump to conclusions...don't believe everything you read or hear from the media...there is usually a bias and an agenda behind it.

Just for the record... I am not a police officer, none of my close friends are officers, and no person in my family is an officer.

This topic has two sides to it. I have seen people receive multiple taserings who truthfully deserved to be shot with a gun. You must look at such issues objectively, before passing a judgement. A cop with a taser may very well save your life, one day.

Tasers should not be used as a last resort. That is what a ballistic firearm (usually a 9mm semi-automatic pistol) is for. However, the taser is not an immediate use item. Like guns, tasers are items that should be handled with care, and used with grave respect.

Citizens, in return, should respect that an officer of the law potentially has the right to terminate their existence, if they go acting stupid and try to harm or resist violently. Being smart is what staying alive and in the gene pool is all about.
