According to Amnesty International, more than 200 citizens have died after being tasered by the police. Many critics of tasers argue that tasers are being used on citizens very often and they are not being used as a last resort. In some cases, the police have tasered young children, senior citizens and citizens that have been sleeping. Type in the word "taser" on google, then search the news section and you will finf out that tasers are bing used to liberally on citizens.

I think they should
Tasers are pretty nasty and with my fear of electrocution, I say get rid of them. They are a barbaric weapon to me.

I think they definately should be banned as I have seen some footage of police officers getting trigger happy with their taser and it's just disgusting that they think they can lord their authority over citizens in such a destructive manner. To be honest if they are holding a gun, they should be trained to use it in a way that will not kill, I would rather be shot in the leg/arm than get tasered.

I was on a website that showed footage of a student in America getting tasered for not producing his lirary card. It shows the incident from the beginning and all he done wrong was maybe take his time to pack away his books. Then when he didn't get up -blatanly coz the pain was too much for him-they tasered him 3 more times. His screams of pain were horrendous to hear.

I'd rather be tased any day of the week than hit in the gut with a .45 Hydroshock hollow point. If the police are using tasers "just for laughs" as some have suggested then the ultimate "counterattack" is called a lawsuit. There are plenty of lawyers in any town that would love to take on such a contingency lawsuit for "wrongful tasering".

This argument has two sides. If the police can subdue a troublemaker without having to use lethal force, lives will be saved. The problem is that Tasers are now becoming commonplace and used too quickly to force citizens into compliance with their instructions. We are seeing lots of examples where the taser has been used to stun someone who is just arguing with a police officer. I predict that police will become more aggressive in the use of tasers "because they can".

If the police don't have tasers, that only leaves them guns. Not a better option. As you point out there is a real problem with training on when to use the tasers.

There is no good answer to this question.

As long as people have issues getting along fighting will occur.

Since we send the police out to keep order they must have some form of protection.

I would suggest that one put themselves in the place of a police officer. If you think you can do the job, then do it. We ask the police to involve themselves in situations which no one should have to deal with, then we get all hot if they go overboard.

When you must spend a lot of time in your limbic system, which I think a police officer must,

It seems to me it is like being the next door neighbor of a T Rex. you have a small electric fence between you and the T Rex. the first time he tried to eat you he got a pretty good shock and hasn't tried since -- but that doesn't mean he isn't thinking about it and won't attempt it at sometime in the future.

don't judge until you've walked the walk

Yes (in my opinion) simply because police are too quick to use tasers in non-life threatening situations. If they were holding a gun, they wouldn't just shoot people so easily, but because they think that tasers are no big deal, they let it rip over the smallest things. There was a video on tv a few days ago where a woman was tasered because she wouldn't put her cell phone down. As she was screaming and rolling on the ground, the cops laughed and said "c'mon it's not that bad, we've been tasered before, quit acting."

The police without tasers would have what defence? guns? They need to have non lethal items to use to control people that refuse to comply. I think tasers should be used and though they may be misused, I bet that instance is very low.

Would you rather be tasered or shot? Seems simple really.

Who do you think you are to stand judge over when a police officer feels his/her live is in jeopardy? When the officer tells you to do something, DO IT! Take away the non-lethal means of defense and enforcement and you end up with a lot more dead disobedient suspects.
