If it is "Southern Magnolia" ; Magnolia grandiflora, I thought that it's leaves were always brown on the underside.

If it's "Chinese Magnolia"; Magnolia soulangeana, they should be dropping their leaves now.

Some Magnolias do have brown on the under side of there leaves.

It is hard to answer your question as I don't know were you are from but if you are living were I am In Sydney,Australia(and summer) then the leaves should not be turning brow ht this time of year.

Depends what zone you at. It can be normal. A period of time is magnolia's resting time, at this time, it need to drop some leaves, so it can grow more better new leave on growing season.
