As a native New Yorker you have many options. Each borough has many different neighborhoods. It is impossible to generalize a borough by price because each has a wide variety of prices. It really depends on how cheap you are looking for. I personally like Queens in neighborhoods such as Bayside and Forest Hills. If you need help e-mail me.

to be honest its all about the type pf nieghborhood that youll want to live in for example the city will be the highest with a smaller amount of sq ft.close to 1700 per month.most apts outside of the city will cost close to 1300 for a one bedroom with light and gas not included.

Prolly Queens or Brooklyn you can get a nice place for 900 and above with high utility costs remember.

have you tried asking a real estate agent for help? they can tell you what areas are cheap and where you won't get shanked while you're looking for your keys. if you don't already have one, there are tons of good agents on this directory: http://www.realestateforsaleinnewyork.com
