There are a myriad of reasons, namely Shyalaman's break from Disney, but I've read many interviews with him where he states he saw UNBREAKABLE as a trilogy. Thoughts?

He didn't see it as a trilogy. It was originally going to be a movie in three acts, as many movies are. Then he realized that he found the first act - the one where David Dunn discovers his powers - to be the most compelling part of the story. He decided to make an entire movie out of the first act. In doing so, he eliminated the second and third acts, where David would have continued doing good works and fleshing out his power, and then the inevitable final battle between David and Mr. Glass. Instead, he chose to make a movie out of the one act and have it end with David realizing both that he had power and that Mr. Glass was evil. That was why the movie often seemed slow and plot points took forever to develop.

If M. Night were going to do sequels, he would probably start with his more successful films - Sixth Sense, Signs, and The Village. Luckily though, he has no intention of doing that. Instead of making crappy sequels like so many studio idiots do, he's making original films. God bless him for it.

After the break up w/Disney, Shyamala may no longer hold the rights for a sequel. I don't think there is anyone else at Disney who sees it as a trilogy.

Because M. Night Sham-ma-lama-ding-dong is a REALLY overrated director/writer.

His only good movies were Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. The others have been nearly unwatcheable.
