Besides his nationality how would you describe him? Is he a guy that likes to read, is trying to learn more English, talks about a particular magazine or comic books? Is he a movie or music nut? Does he like to go fishing or hunting? Here is a good one, is he a diehard coffee drinker?

Get him a sports watch if he doesn't have one already. It has to be water resistant to 30 meters, tell the time, have stopwatch functions... other cool functions would be nice too (mine gives the temperature of my wrist, and has three alarms -- it's a Suunto).
