Yes Avast is completely free for Home Users Only. Business Users will have to pay a nominal fee for use. Also, there are many more free anti-viruses you can download and use. Two of the more popular ones are http://www.grisoft.com and http://www.aol.com/security . Both are excellent choices and work well. God Bless.

Avast antivirus is free to home users. It is free to download and use on a system for 30 days before registration is required. Upon registration (free), they send you a code that will allow you to use their software for a period of 1 year free of charge. Once this is complete, you may renew it. Again this is at no charge.
