It could be a variety of things.

1. Starter motor is going bad. Starter motors work better cool, and that 5 minute wait may have allowed the starter to cool enough to turn again. When you tried to start it back up, did the engine turn over at all? (attempt to start?) If not, high suspicions on the starter motor

2. Neutral Safety switch is going out. (If it happens again, try shifting the car into neutral and starting it in neutral instead of park) If it starts up right away in Neutral, the neutral safety switch may be bad.

3. Weak battery. Battery is on the border line of going bad. Check fluid level (electrolite) in battery. Add fluid if necessary. If possible get the battery load tested.

Could be the fuel pump going bad. When you go to start it make sure everything that makes noise is off. When you turn the key to the 2nd click, without turning it over, you should hear a slight humming noise for about 3-5 seconds. This is the fuel pump engaging. Wait at least 15 seconds before doing it again so the pump can reset. It is easier to have someone place their ear by the fuel tank door and listen. My 88 S-10 had this problem and the repair shop couldn't figure it out because it didn't always happen. (Then the pump quit)
You should be able to hear it, when it is quiet, from inside the car. Just remember to click the key forward twice
