It's often a trend of society to look down on people who have a strong passion in something that isn't considered the normal. In most societies cartoons are considered something to be enjoyed by children and not by teenagers and adults and because of that when they see people who are very much into anime they look down on them for liking something they dont understand. I think this comes from the fact that many people still dont understand and appreciate the range that anime has and that anime can appeal to all ages and isnt just something just for kids.

But there is nothing wrong with being an otaku or liking anime. Everyone has a passion and something they like, it's what makes life more enjoyable and givs you goals and things to do. I think because with anime people can get very involved and obsessed with it, that people look down at otaku because they think that all otaku are very crazy about the shows and think that all otaku do negative things, which they dont.

I know I like anime and manga, i do because it's much different from the shows I watch here in the US and because the storylines and characters are so unique and get me interested very quick. Plus the drawing can be very pretty that it's nice to look at.

I understood your English just find and again, nothing is wrong with you for liking anime!
anime FTW ^_^

*_* so cute, not really considering myself an otaku, my dedication is not that deep (in my opinion) But there is nothing wrong with being an otaku, tell your friends drama's good n all (well if it's 1 Litre of Tears - teh yes best drama ever) Yeah i know a few people that think anime is cartoons which it sorta is when you get down to... 'okay never mind doesn't matter' tell them they have romance, drama, fighting,

Personally I like manga and anime because... hmm sexy bishies, fighting, plot lines, music, the fact that i've always loved cartoons and animation and anime is like woah. eh sorry not making sense oh well.

Well there's a difference between enjoying anime and manga, and being obsessed over it. In Japan, Otaku is more of an insult describing people who's whole life revolves around fictional characters. Compare it to the world of warcraft/star wars/star trek/dungeons and dragons type of geeks that are often overweight, live at home, and lack personal hygiene.

Otaku became even more so a negative term when this fat, ugly otaku guy in Japan went on a killing spree.
