Dune. Definitely. Never gets old. And that Sci-Fi Channel movie (the first one) blew me away. I really liked that they made the Fremen word for Messiah sound like his name. I didn't get that while reading.

The original Dune Trilogy no question. There is no doubt that Terry Brooks has written some good books, but Dune is probably one of the top 10 all time Science Fiction Classics.

However, they are different enough that I'm am sure many people prefer Shannara. Personally, I always thought Shannara was a week Lord of the Rings imitation. I like his non-Shannara books better.

Undeniably Shannara Series, Terry created a magical world and really made you feel for the characters and enjoy the plot line.

While Shannara books were good, they tended to drag on and on a little. My vote would be with Frank Herbert. Kept you there pretty much the whole story.

When it comes to rip roaring daring do, Shannara has my vote. However, when it's scope, depth and complexity, I go for Dune unless I feel like a re-read of LOTR.
