How do you mean ruin? By voicing an opinion about not liking the commercialism of the holiday when it should be a time to celebrate with loved ones? I don't understand your question.
If you're upset that people don't like the advertisements, non-stop music, the go into debt to buy the best present, etc. you're going to be frustrated about this your whole life. It's getting worse and people aren't feeling the holiday spirit anymore because of it. Most people don't mean to express this in such a negative way and the ones that do you just have to ignore.
Don't miss-understand me, I do celebrate Christmas, put up a few decorations and home make my gifts and or buy a few small things, and enjoy watching my little nice and nephew open their presents. It's just what society has done to the holiday that makes some people dread the season. Try not to let it get to you and enjoy your own version of Christmas.

The reason Jesus' birth is celebrated this time of year, instead of when it probably ACTUALLY happened (late spring) is because there was a Pagan solstice celebration that people WOULD NOT stop celebrating. (Yule-as in the log, the tree and the holly) So the Church at the time, decided to Christianize the holiday so that they could feel better about all the people celebrating that time of year.
We do celebrate this time of year. We have a tree, a wreath, presents the whole bit on Dec 24th-25th. We stay up all night on the 21st and celebrate the sun's return as well. I don't have a problem with others beleifs. AS LONG AS they don't try to say my family can't celebrate the way that works for us.
If you are interested in preChristian traditions this time of year,or where the roots of the modern Christmas traditions are, I'd suggest reading the book "when Santa was a Shaman" It's pretty interesting.

"Why do people that don't believe in Christmas, feel that they have to ruin it for everyone else?"
Likewise, I must ask: "Why do those who DO believe in Christmas force their holiday on the rest of the world?"
Let me answer the first question & the second one will be answered therein, also. There is nothing about Christmas celebrations that has anything to do with Jesus. It's all about the money. All the santas, snowmen, reindeers, lights, etc., are all products of the commercialized holiday, not the teachings & celebration of the birth of Christ. It is this way because people say "I have to buy a gift for little Johnny because we don't want him to feel left out!" and the businesses ALL want to cash in on this spending spree in which everyone competes (competes for the "gift giving" prize). The retailers know that a certain % of their annual income (larger than normal) will happen during the Christmas Shopping Season. So, they say "Merry Christmas" to everyone who even buys a pack of gum. I am of the opinion that if Christ saw what was happening in honor of his birth, his reaction would be to denounce every penny of the giving that is currently being done. Christ was not against giving, but he felt we should give to those who need it most. That means that all the children who are able to receive gifts from their parents (decidedly NOT the children that need it most) should instead be giving the money that bought those presents to charities who take care of children who are not as fortunate as they are. Until that happens, the celebration of christmas (left uncapitalized on purpose) is nothing but a financial orgy for retailers who, as corporate entities, don't give a rat's tail about religion except as it relates to their bottom line.
One other thing to think about, if everyone who is "the religion of Jesus" were to pray the way Jesus prayed, they would, instead, be "of Jesus' religion" & would be Jewish instead of making a diety out of Jesus. The first commandment is "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me!" but anyone who prays TO Jesus or "In Jesus' name" is putting Jesus before God. But, this is a discussion best left to another forum & format.
Meanwhile, the financial orgy is the reason why there can never be any middle ground between commercialism & the birth of Jesus, and it's the reason why those of us who are not of a religion that believes in Christ are involuntarily & mercilessly bombarded with the holiday.

I believe the fundamental problem is that most people are selfish. They only care about what they want, think, feel, believe, or desire. They can't stop to think that their actions will affect someone else negatively because they don't consider other people to begin with.
People should be able to celebrate whatever they want, as long as they aren't intruding on others directly. It's like when Walmart said they were going to take down all references to Christmas in favor of Holidays or Seasons Greetings, so they wouldn't be endorsing any one celebration. Why can't they celebrate all of them in some way? It can be proportional; Christmas is the most celebrated, followed by Hannukah, followed by somethign like Kwanzaa.

It is very frustrating isn't it?They choose not to celebrate and don't want anyone to give them a hard time; yet they persist in trying to ruin the season for those who don't agree with them. I don't celebrate Hanukkah yet, I don't try to berate the people that do; the same goes for other celebrations. Christmas is a time when we should all be more peaceable with people yet for them it is there season to tirade. How can anyone be persuaded by that?

I believe in christmas, just not your version of christmas. Ooops, must be P.C. and say "the holidays".
How is my stating that the reason for the season is Jesus' birth ruining it for everyone else? Can I not have my opinion and state it, or are only non-christians allowed to state their opinions without fear of retribution or ridicule?
Perhaps you're ruining christmas for me by pushing the cult of santa/commercialism at me and putting all those santa/snowman/reigndeer cartoons on the tv. Maybe you should just smile and walk away when someone tells you what they feel the true meaning of christmas is to them if you don't agree.

What really gets me mad is when the people who blatantly don't believe in God or Jesus still celebrate Christmas. They are celebrating the material things of the world, not what Christmas is really about. The people who don't believe in God or Jesus should not have the Right to celebrate, becuase they are just celebrating gifts.

Well maybe if others who keep insisting this season is only about Christmas would bother looking around and notice there are OTHER holidays and beliefs that are equally as valid during this time of year there might not be such a problem. Not everybody worships Jesus, nor should they.

I don't know. I have been thinking this exact same thing. Did you hear about the Jewish person who demanded a giant monorah be but in an airport because there was a Christmas tree there? It's crazy.... Oh yeah. And don't go try to buy a christmas tree... You won't find one. They call 'em "Holiday Trees" now.

either they really do believe in Christmas and it's just a way of getting attention, or they just really, really suck.
personally I don't like Christmas because of all the parties, it seems like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are too close together.. this happens every year, I'm just exhausted by the time Christmas comes around..
HOWEVER, Merry Christmas I hope you have a blast. :)
