I'm not a follower. I do things for myself and I always have. If friends want to jump of a cliff, I tell them to have a nice trip.

Why do parents use it? Because it is an extreme and ridiculous example used (supposedly) to make you think.
Would I jump off the cliff? Yeah... I trust my friends. If they are telling me to jump off a cliff, it is guaranteed the better of two choices.

When my parents said that to me, I always thought it was kind of silly cause I knew none of my friends would jump off a cliff.

hell no, and I agree with you, it is a stupid line, but are the kids doing things because their friends do? if so then I can understand why they ask that, but they should ask a more reasonable question because don't no one wants to die so heck no ain't nobody going to jump off a cliff behind their friend...

If it was bungee jumping, maybe I'd try it. But if it was just flat out jumping off a cliff and probably KILLING yourself, it would be common sense not to do it!

Sure, as long as I get to pick the cliff. I pick the cliff at the bottom of my back steps.
