It is the amendment in our constitution that says the congress can't pass a law that makes a state religion, prohibit your specific religion, infringes your freedom of speech or press, limit your right to make petitions and limit you in assemblies.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
