I placed this question before, but I never got a real answer.
Why are so many people talking about muslim women who have their owen dress code. I hear often: it's mention in the Koran how to dress.
On the other hand, Nuns have their own dress code to show which religion they belong to. Why nobody talks about how a nun dresses?
If there is a dress code accepted for nuns, why not for muslim women?
I am not talking about cases where it is necessary to see the face to security, at court, etc.
Please only seriouse answers. thanks

@ leroue: wasn't Jesus a man?
At least the Koran says something how a woman should dress. Where in the Bible do you find some like that?

A very good point!
I don't agree with hijab etc - but women should be allowed to wear it if they wish. I know several muslim women who wear it to various degrees - and in every case it is their own choice.

I'm not quite sure what you are saying with this so I will try to give this my best shot. In Muslim society, especially with the former generations, it is considered more appropriate and respectful for women to dress with nothing but their eyes showing. Muslim society is slowly beginning to change and in some cases you will find that the younger generations will wear more "modern" clothes, such as what you would find a Western person wear. Some Muslim girls continue to wear the robe but not the head covering. It varies from family to family.
As for the nuns, I'm not too sure about. I asked my mother-in-law who mentioned about Dogma and the Catholic faith. She told me, she believes there may be a part in the Bible about having the head covered, but is not sure and will be something that I will look into and can get back with you on if you would like.
I don't know if this has helped or not, or is even what you were asking about. Either way let me know and I would be more than willing to try to help you with whatever questions you may have.

Is the way Muslim women dress not a lot to do with the male enforcing it so? Whereas Nuns dress according to Habit?

I never thought of that. They could have all manner of weapons tucked into their habits, but no one says anything about that. I don't understand why people are bothered by what either type of women wear. Maybe it's because we thought we were going to 'save' Muslim women from oppression and some people think it's a slap in the face for them to voluntarily wear these outfits (I don't know what they're called).

The Bible states in I Timothy 2:9 "women adorn themselves in modest apparel." Different societies have different ideas of what a modest apparel is. It just so happens that the Catholic idea of this is represented in the way the nuns dress.

Hi,
As a Christian, I actually respect how muslims dress. When they wear their full garb it automatically deters guys from trying to talk to them in the street. Whereas, me as a Christian, I can dress modestly, be fully clothed even in the summer, and STILL guys would try to talk to me. Clothes do tell alot about people, but they don't guarantee us a ticket into heaven though.

Hey - if you want to equate Muslim women to nuns, I'll just step out of the way and watch the fireworks.

It has to do with accepted cultural ways and beliefs and the way people have always believed someone should look. I'll give you an example: Take the way you've always been taught that Santa Claus should look. Could you picture him in denium shorts and a biker jacket with a biker cap?

even nuns don'twear thehabit any more, since it serves to keep them a way from their church followers. And as for the muslim women wearing the complete wardrobe, from head to toe, its just your way of telling us that you think you are better than the rest of us. So you deserve to be treated badly. It is not a religious thing, but a personal thing.
