natural diamonds are actually very common stones, but the gem industry has for more than a century created a false market. If the De Beers company monopoly were to be broken, diamonds would be about the price of tiger eye or amethyst while man made diamonds are much rarer and are much better quality diamonds than natural stones.
But since the false market holds, the natural diamonds are sold for a much higher price than the man made variety.

Yes, is the simple answer. It is very easy to tell one from the other by using a little instrument which lights up if it's a diamond and does not react if it's a zirconia or other fake. The stones may appear the same but their crystal structure is totally different.

Yes because an uncut diamond is untouched and therefore pure. A cut diamond on the other hand has been touched and could have been damaged or altered.
