I find that I work best with complex music playing in the background. In particular, Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar riffs allow me to focus better - I don't know why.
I like most genres so anything from classical to rock will do.
Thanks.

Look up the band DragonForce.

They're speedmetal, one of the HARDEST genres because of the incredibly fast playing required.

Here's a sample of their solos:

I would reccomend Lynyrd Skynyrd because thier guitars are so synchronized and the solo in Free Bird is totally insane. also Megadeth has some sweet riffs.

I would suggest Tool. The lyrics are complex and deep, and the music is great to just have in the background.

A band called "King's X" has very intricate music. I would recommend them. The music and the vocal harmonies are complex, especially the older stuff.

Actually, in my opinion, it all very simple. They just twist it a lot and they make it sound cool. Trans-Siberian Orchestra
